Pattern Description

Uroko-gata Kissho Mi-mon(Design of Good Omen and Snake in Scale)

A snake has been adored as it makes the fortune, tells whereabout the wealth locates and protects the wealth if it lives in a residence. The triangle design on the ground pattern of this brocade, known as "uroko-gata" or a scale design, depicts such a snake and it is arranged with design of "ja-no-me" (literally meaning snake eye) or a double ring, which is a simple and an impressive pattern and known as a family crest of Kato Kiyomasa (1562-1611), a Japanese daimyo, and other designs of collection of good omen such as a mallet of luck, a cloud meaning the auspicious signs, a clove protecting from evil, and a treasure scroll showing the knowledge and the morality. Warp-patterned brocade of good luck was woven with our refined technique in elegant and rich colors.
