Pattern Description
Back decoration, medium:Nami Usagi Yuki-wa-mon(Design of Wave, Rabbit and Snow-ring)
The porcelain ware was started to be produced in Japan in the beginning of the 17th century. Before then, they ware imported from the Eastern Asian countries, of which paintings were with the foreign designs. The paintings on the Japan-produced porcelain wares, however, were gradually changed to be applied to the Japanese taste. One of them is "seigaiha" pattern (literally, a pattern of waves in blue ocean).
Here, we have arranged the "seigaiha" pattern and made a happy design of the rabbits appeared and disappeared in the "seigaiha" pattern, praying for permanent fortune to come like a restless movement of the waves in the ocean. The long ears of a rabbit symbolize happiness, and the snowflake-shape hidden in the waves symbolizes bumper crop.
The imaginable design of lovely rabbits and the waves were made into warp-patterned brocade with our outstanding weaving technique.
Back decoration, top:Soun-ji Bundai-gire(Cloth Covering of a Writing Desk at Soun-ji Temple)
The design of this brocade is originated from a cloth which covered a writing desk and an inkstone case, preserved at Soun-ji Temple in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture, belonged to Sogi (1421-1502), the master of the "linked verse" type of poetry called renga, and is now designated as an Important Cultural Property. The original is a silver brocade with a ground filled with silvered paper stripes and patterned with a bine arabesque design of wild pink in colored yarns of green, maroon, and slight rouge. Adding a modern device to the original brocade, the new brocade is woven with our technique leaving the exquisite harmony of tastefulness and luxury of the original material.
Back decoration, bottom:Omoide(The Memory)
The sprout of flower, fruit, and tree growing on the desolate earth was thought as a holy thing in ancient India. The sprout of palm was designed, therefore, into the design called paisley pattern and handed down to the present time. The paisley pattern was woven into the sublime textile in Europe in the early 19 th century in a yearning to the Orient and is now widely loved among people in the world. This design was modeled after such a traditional pattern of the paisley and made into our brocade.
