Description
A summer fan that eases the summer heat and makes the figure of a fan look cool. The thin gauze fabric was tailored to fit the firm 25-ken frame by Ibasen, a famous maker of folding fans. Ibasen was founded in 1590 (Tensho 18) by Ibaya Kanzaemon, a Hamamatsu merchant who went to Edo (present-day Tokyo) with Ieyasu Tokugawa. In the latter half of the Edo period, the company began to deal in ukiyoe fans, and became the publisher for Toyokuni I, Kuniyoshi, Hiroshige, and others, spreading the name of "Ibasen. The fans combining the techniques of these two long-established Japanese companies are lightweight yet strong and sturdy, and can be used for a long time. Also included is a special fan case made of the same fabric.
