The Tenjin Festival depicted here is a festival held mainly at Osaka Tenmangu Shrine. The Tenjin Matsuri, held at Tenmangu shrines around Japan, is a fair associated with the anniversary of the death of Sugawara Michizane, and is held around the 25th. Sometimes the festival is held in a certain month of the year, such as the first Tenjin Festival in January, and of all the Tenjin Festivals held at various shrines, the Tenjin Festival in Osaka City is the most famous.
Together with the Gion Festival in Kyoto and the Kanda Festival in Tokyo, it is also known as one of the three major festivals in Japan.
The festival lasts about a month, from the end of June to July 25. In particular, on the night of the 25th, the night of the main shrine, there is a Funatogyo (boat procession) where many boats come and go along the Okawa River and fireworks are set off. The festival is also known as the "Fire and Water Festival" because of the magnificent fireworks and lanterns reflected on the river.
is a gem of a product that beautifully depicts the Tenjin Festival.
