Collection: KUSURI-DANA-NO HEBI(The Snake on the Medicine Cabinet)
While strolling through the towns in the European countries, you will often see a signboard drawing a snake at a pharmacy. A snake coiling around a champagne glass is called "The Bowl of Hygieia" which is used as a symbol of pharmaceutical sciences worldwide. Hygieia is a name of a goddess in Greek myth and said to govern a good health and to control the sanitation.
The design of this brocade is modeled after a medicine cabinet in an extant historic pharmacy in the East Europe, plus a snake pattern which is closely related with the pharmaceutical sciences. We designed, with an uplifting feeling, the line-up of various shapes of earthenware medicine containers as if stepping into a place where the long history is still breathing in the comfortable aroma of medical herbs. This concept was woven into a warp-patterned brocade in the brilliant colors.
