Patterns

"Rikyu" Brocade

The original cloth which was one of the favorites of Rikyu, a great tea master, is a brocade with plum blossom motifs in yellowish brown which softly melt into a light blue background. This design is a superb one to represent plumblossoms with five dots in yellowish brown and a lineal construction to combine these dots. In view of its wide use today, we introduced a slight change to the texture of the original fabric. For a color scheme we learnt the way of making and sense of the original, and tried to represent plum-blossoms in various background colors and by the shades which harmonize with these colors.

Kiri-ni Mukai-houou Maru-mon Nishiki(Brocade with Design of Paulownia Flower and Phoenix in Roundel)

The Mibu-kyogen, a traditional comical play handed down in Mibu-dera temple in Kyoto is said to have originated in March, 1300 with the priest Enkaku. Since then, the costumes to be used in the Kyogen play have been donated by the believers of the temple. The design of this brocade, phoenixes facing each other in roun del placing paulownia flowers on every side, was modeled after one of the Kyogen costumes donated by Yasujiro Osaka-ya and 8 others to Mibu-dera temple in 1850 with their religious believes, and was woven in warp-patterned brocade with our authentic technique.

Ren-ju Zui-cho-mon (Auspicious Birds on Spread Branches)

This design consists of branches spread toward the sky and auspicious birds holding a foliage in their beak and resting happily. We have woven into a unique brocade with full of poetic sentiment using the weaving technique which Heizo 1st Tatsumura ( 1876-1962) invented.
