Description

This item is useful as an interior decoration item that adds color to any space when placed in the center of a long table, such as a parlor set or dining table. Both ends of the tassel are made of toki tassels, and the carefully untied colored threads make it a very beautiful piece of work.

The fabric used is called Keikin, which expresses colors and patterns by the ups and downs of the threads, and uses a weaving technique found in the ancient sakis owned by Shosoin and Horyuji temples.

It is lightweight and not bulky, making it an ideal gift for people overseas. It is also available in a paulownia wood box, making it a gift of a higher grade.

*This product is a limited edition made-to-order item.

Patterns

Fuku-neko Kohshi-mon(Design of Good-Luck Cat and Cross Stripes Pattern)

This design is composed of the cross stripes pattern diversely developed in the Edo period (1603~1867AD) in the popular culture like the costume of KABUKI play and UKIYO-E (color print), and a cat arched its back which was widely loved by people in the same era.
The cross stripes made of thick and thin lines are called “OKINA-KOHSHI” (a plaid pattern of old man) depicting a grandfather and a grandchild respectively meaning the prosperity of descendants. The cat is a symbol of good fortune as "FUKU-NEKO" (a good-luck cat) as it protects the crop and the treasure from the rat’s biting and gnawing. The cat is also idolized especially by sailors as the guardian deity for the same reason.
We have woven into the warp-patterned brocade with the design of the linear manner of the checks and the soft figure of the good-luck cat.
