Tempyō Danmon Nishiki(Brocade of Stripe Pattern in the Tempyo Period)

The original design of this stripe pattern in gradation colors is from the brocade stored at Shōsō-in repository in the 8th century made with high technique of dyeing and weaving. The fabric was usually cut diagonally in those days, inspiring with fresh sense of art, and used at the hem of tablerunner or at the triangular head part of banner. The design of Tempy ō Danmon nishiki, a weft brocade of stripe pattern in the Tempyō period, is woven into our warp brocade with refined technique.
