Asuka Shokko-kin("Shokko" Brocade of the Asuka Period)

The original piece from which our reproduction was adopted is used for the hem and the border of the small banner of the Asuka period known as the oldest standard in Japan and called"Shokko" (meaning "made in Shu, China").This brocade is similar in design to that excavated from the ruins of Turfan, Sinkiang Region, China, and therefore this fabric is said to have been woven in the 7th century. The design is composed of a lotus flower pattern in the center surrounded by a pearl roundel inside a square. Being richly colored, this textile has an exquisite charm of "Shokko". We have woven the pattern and the ground into the warp-patterned brocade, same as the original, with our refined weaving technique.
