Patterns

Kan-yokyu Uroko-mon(Gold Brocade of Xianyang Palace Design with Scale Pattern)

There are many masterpieces among the fabrics which the nobilities in modern times used for the mountings of hanging scrolls. This design is originated from a gold brocade used for mounting of painting in the Yuan Dynasty China (1279 - 1368 A.D.) entitled "Xianyang Palace", known as the palace of The First Emperor of Chin (221 - 206 B.C.). The original, kept at the Eisei Bunko Archives, Tokyo, dates from the Ming Dynasty China (1368 - 1644 A.D.). The pattern consists of tiny diamonds in different colors looking somewhat unusual like mosaic. This is a gold brocade made with our weaving technique in the graceful colors showing the elegance of the original piece.

Karahana Socho Chohan-kin(Brocade with Pattern of Flowers and Paired Birds)

"Chohan" is a term for stripe pattern fabric woven with the warp yarn in two or more colors, and the brocade of this pattern is called "Chohan-kin". The original design of this fabric with flowers and paired birds placed in the "Chohan-kin" is from the fabric kept at Shosoin repository in Todai-ji templ ein Nara, Japan since the 8th century which was originally used on the cover of an Emperor’s arm rest. This colorful brocade is woven with our sophisticated warp patt erned weaving technique in a modified design with a new addition of g old and silver threads between the stripes.

Mughals Sheep

Sheep designs were widely used in the carpets of the ancient days because sheep was deeply connected with the daily life of people. This sheep design is adopted from an Indian carpet in the Mughal era (1526-1857 A.D.) and scrolling vines were added by us. The new warp brocade here has been executed with unique and skillful weaving technique.

Shika-mon Arisugawa Nishiki(Arisugawa Brocade with Deer Pattern)

The so-called "meibutu-gire" meaning famous textiles were selected by the tea masters to decorate paintings, writing scrolls and utensils for the tea ceremony. During the long period of time extending from the early Muromachi period (1338-1573A.D.) to the late Edo period (1603-1867A.D.), most of the meibutsu-gire were imported to Japan from Asian countries. Whence the name of Arisugawa derives is unknown, but most notable in this brocade are a tactful combination of straight lines, sophisticated color scheme and design, and an orderly, advanced weaving technique required to make it. This original taste is woven into warp-patterned brocade with our weaving technique in new colors.

Soun-ji Bundai-gire(Cloth Covering of a Writing Desk at Soun-ji Temple)

The design of this brocade is originated from a cloth which covered a writing desk and an inkstone case, preserved at Soun-ji Temple in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture, belonged to Sogi (1421-1502), the master of the "linked verse" type of poetry called renga, and is now designated as an Important Cultural Property. The original is a silver brocade with a ground filled with silvered paper stripes and patterned with a bine arabesque design of wild pink in colored yarns of green, maroon, and slight rouge. Adding a modern device to the original brocade, the new brocade is woven with our technique leaving the exquisite harmony of tastefulness and luxury of the original material.
