"Keiryu" was created with the theme of "dragon" in collaboration with the "anima" series of art objects by Koikko Matsuzaki, who continues to create art pieces by making full use of traditional techniques.

The beauty of the textile that the beautiful brocade emits and the outstanding skills of the doll maker are incorporated to create "Keiryu" as a sophisticated work of art. "Keiryu" is a symbol of good fortune and an ideal interior art for spatial display, adding color to a wide variety of scenes.

In the spirit of creative reuse (upcycling), the body of the object is made of paulownia wood in the "kimekomi" process, and the majority of the decorative strips are made of "hagire," making this an environmentally friendly work.

■About the "anima" series of art objects
Koikko Matsuzaki is an artist who creates innovative art pieces while inheriting traditional techniques. In particular, in the "anima" series, he creates new style art objects. The new art pieces created by combining art textiles create high-grade interior spaces.

Description

Kimekomi (dolls), a method of making art objects, is made by digging grooves in the body made of hardened paulownia wood powder (toso: paulownia wood powder kneaded with glue, etc.) and then inserting fabric into the grooves to dress the doll (kimekomi).
The carefully selected fabrics include 41 colorful types, such as kire with gold and silver threads woven into them, unique weaving patterns such as bulge weave, and kire using special weaving techniques.
The work is also made using traditional techniques that have been passed down through the generations, with a focus on expressing the solemnity and dynamism of the sacred "dragon".

Patterns

*Introduction of fabrics used (This product uses multiple patterns.)

Ju-ka-mon (Design of Chrysanthemum and a Chinese Letter of Longevity)

A chrysanthemum has been loved among Japanese people as its appearance, color, and smell are excellent. Here, we have arranged chrysanthemum and a Chinese letter meaning "a long life", on the ground design of dappled pattern of tie-dyed like appearance, woven by unique technique invented by Heizo Tatsumura 1st (1876~1962).

Ren-ju Zui-cho-mon (Auspicious Birds on Spread Branches)

This design consists of branches spread toward the sky and auspicious birds holding a foliage in their beak and resting happily. We have woven into a unique brocade with full of poetic sentiment using the weaving technique which Heizo 1st Tatsumura ( 1876-1962) invented.

Zui-ryu Soshuu-mon(Liu Design in Embroidery)

The textile fabrics made in ancient China, centering in the State of Chu (11C-3C, BC) (present Hubei) influenced on the nearby countries by the quality perfection and the high technology of the fabrics.
The design of this brocade is modeled after one of the embroidery patterns in those textiles. We newly designed a geometrical pattern of "Chinese Liu" surrounded by the vines of stems and flowers spreading vertically and horizontally, so that the "Liu" looks active.
The "Liu" design, one of the most valued good omen in China, symbolizing the rise of the Imperial Court and the happy wedding, is woven into warp-patterned brocade by our exquisite weaving technique.
