Dragon Boat Festival" collection of patterns to ward off bad luck

Children's Day in 2026 is scheduled to fall on May 5 (Tuesday). In Japan, it was introduced as one of the five festivals in the Nara and Heian periods, and by the Edo period (1603-1867), it had spread from the samurai to the common people, leading to the culture of carp streamers and warrior dolls. In modern times, it has taken root as an important event for boys, with its original meaning as a celebration to ward off bad luck and pray for good health.
Tatsumura Bijutsu Orimono offers a variety of May dolls and patterns suitable for to convey such feelings. Please take this opportunity to select from a wide variety of well-designed patterns for warding off evil spirits, including traditional scale patterns.

Please see below for the explanation of the patterns

UROKO-TOMOE-SAKURA DAN-MON(STRIPE DESIGN WITH SCALE, TOMOE & CHERRY BLOSSOM)

The design of this fabric is modeled after one of the gold brocade made in Ming Dynasty, China (14~17C, AD) of which design is consisted of scale, TOMOE (three comma-shaped beads, or MAGATAMA, encircled) and cherry blossom respectively drawn in repeated sashes. The TOMOE pattern has been believed as a divine spirit and used as an amulet. The original brocade is considered to be the supreme masterpiece produced in the Medieval Ages.
Here, we used the combination of less-luster gold thread and slightly-different-color yarns to show three-dimensional effect to make the design more conspicuous and recreates the sensitive and harmonious beauty. We hope you will enjoy the continuing beauty of the original masterpiece.
