黒地に愛らしい草花紋様が描かれた本品は、正倉院に伝わる宝物の一つである木箱の装飾が元になっており、それを太鼓柄の帯に構成したものになります。平安時代の美が感じられ、正倉院宝物を象徴するような描画表現には、落ち着いた中にも華やかさが見られます。それらを帯の上に表すにあたって、葉は箔を使い目にする角度によって輝くように、また、花は明るいオレンジやグリーンの色糸を用いることで、漆黒に浮遊するような神秘的な美しさが漂うように、それぞれ工夫を凝らして織り上げられた逸品です。式典などのおめでたい席や、お茶会などに、訪問着、付下げ、色無地、小紋など、幅広くお締めいただける帯です。
