Description
A brocade art with design of Gion Festival in Kyoto.
Patterns
The theme of this piece is the Gion Festival, a summer tradition in Kyoto. The festival is held every year for a month from July 1st.
The festival is held at Yasaka Shrine in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto, and was called "Gion Goryo-kai" until the Meiji era (1868-1912). It has been held since the Jogan era (9th century) and is called one of the three major festivals in Japan, along with the Kanda Festival in Tokyo and the Tenjin Festival in Osaka. This is a gem of a piece that beautifully depicts the Gion Festival.
