Suminokura-mon(Brocade of Suminokura Design)
The name of this design is originated in the fact that Mr.Sumin okura Ryoi (1554-1614) who was a wealthy merchant in Kyoto was so attracted by this design. The refined pattern depicts a fruit tree and a lovely figure of a rabbit looking back on the raised earth.
The original brocade was woven with gilt paper strips to create the design on the light green ground, but we made this brocade with our warp-patterned technique in new colors.
