This is a gem of a Nagoya obi, woven with auspicious motifs such as good luck and longevity, centered around the familiar motif of "cats". This obi with a cat's appearance, loved by people of all ages, can be used in a wide range of situations, from casual occasions such as short outings and dinner parties to semi-formal occasions such as tea ceremony lessons and theater.

This obi has different front patterns for the "Kanto Maki" and "Kansai Maki".

This obi was created with the hope that cat lovers would be happy. Inspired by the paintings of Kuwagata Keisai, an Edo period ukiyo-e artist, we woven cats in various poses with soft brush strokes. Butterflies fluttering between the cats create an auspicious pattern known as "Moutetsu." In China, cats are written as "Mo," which is said to have the same sound as the kanji for 70, and butterflies are written as "Moutetsu," which has the same sound as the kanji for 80, so the combination of cats and butterflies is considered to be an auspicious combination that brings longevity. It is also said that cats with curled tails will attract good luck, and short tails are considered to be auspicious as they do not turn into nekomata.
One side of the front pattern is sprinkled with cats' favorite "kari-kari" (cat food), and hearts and four-leaf clovers, which symbolize good fortune, are also secretly included. This Nagoya obi is full of playfulness, with happy meanings hidden here and there.
